Historie
The hospederia is situated in the historical village Santiago Millas. Santiago Millas is seen as the main village in La Maragateria in the northwest of spain in the provence of Leon.
De Hospederia ligt in het monumentale dorp Santiago Millas. Santiago Millas wordt ook wel de hoofdstad van de streek La Maragatería genoemd in het Noord Westen van Spanje in de provincia Leon.
Het dorp is een typisch "arrieros" dorp uit de 18 de eeuw. Het dorp straalt de sfeer van deze tijd nog uit en dat is goed te zien in de structuur van het dorp en de gebouwen. In 1998 heeft de regering an de Castilla - Leon, het dorp verklaard tot Historisch Artistiek Monument.
Vanwege de strategische ligging, 300 km van de kust en 300 km van Madrid, beleefde het dorp een grote groei in de 18de en 19de eeuw. Het had zich ontwikkelend tot een belangrijk logistiek centrum in NW Spanje. Dit kan men vandaag nog goed zien in de maat van de gebouwen waar de arrieros hun transportgoederen opsloegen en samenwoonden met hun knechten.
De afgelopen decennia beleefde Santiago Millas een wedergeboorte door het rural toerisme en door de verkoop van vele gebouwen aan personen van buiten het dorp die de huizen gebruiken als tweede woning. Dit heeft geleid tot veel restauraties en een verbetering van de omgeving.
Because of the strategic location, 300 km from the coast and 300 km from Madrid, the village was in the 18th and 19th century an important logistic centre in the northwest of spain. This is still vissible in the structure of the village and the typical buildings. In 1998 the goverment of Castilla - Leon, declared the village as an Historic Artistic Monument.
The last decennia the village developed as an rural toeristic area where people can enjoy the natural beauty, the hills, the mountains and the many cultural villages.
